Message from our Director, Barb Heath: 6/23/2023
As you know, four weeks ago we put up a Giving Grid with a goal of $5000 to help us meet the expenses from the emergency intake of 24 dogs. I am humbled and grateful to announce that we have now met that goal due to the generosity of YOU our wonderful supporters. We are suspending this fundraiser at midnight but we are always grateful for your continued support. The volunteers involved with the care of these animals have found it a labor of love and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Spring Shelter Update
We were delighted to celebrate Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week by honoring our own ACO, Julie Kocik. We appreciate her dedication and hard work towards animal welfare.
In the coming weeks, we are excited to promote two events: Cinco de Meow and Mayday for Mutts Day on May 5th, and a Dining to Donate event hosted by Applebee’s on May 20th.
Additionally, June is Foster A Pet Month, and we will be promoting this rewarding volunteer opportunity. Our fosters have already been doing an incredible job, as we took in sixteen bottle feeder kittens in one day!
Our intake and adoption volunteers are working tirelessly to take care of all these animals, so please be patient if it takes longer than usual to get your application approved.
We are also thrilled to announce our upcoming open house event on Sunday, June 23 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Come join us for shelter tours, merchandise sales, and meet our special guests, including our caring vets.
Lastly, don’t forget to sign up for the Golf Outing for the shelter on June 29th, hosted by Brandon Reppucci. All of these events are essential in supporting our mission of rescuing, rehoming, and educating about animal welfare.
Please submit any lost reports online and send us a picture of your lost pet to info@parmashelter.org
Fundraising
We would like to thank everyone who has been supporting our shelter with donations to our fundraising campaigns. We’ve made it easier to donate using a credit card, Paypal or by mail. We are also grateful to those who continually share our social media posts and help us find homes for our guests. For those generous people who are willing to donate from our wish list, we have made updates! You can donate through Amazon or Chewy wish lists too. For those of you who use Fresh Step litter, every point you donate will help us buy litter for our foster kitties. It’s easy to create an account and upload a picture of your receipt. We also have ongoing campaigns on Giving Grid to help us raise money for medical care for our guests.
Volunteering
We are also looking for volunteers so if you can help, please submit an application. We are looking for volunteers to help staff our front desk, walk dogs and take care of kitties. There are 100 jobs necessary to run an animal shelter. We are proud to be 100% volunteer. Once trained, volunteers can choose from open slots on Signup Genius during the week if they have extra time to give. We appreciate the many people who step up to help with events and come in for extra shifts as needed. Our Star volunteer last month was volunteer Jean Bolling!

Become a Permanent Foster
From time to time, the Parma Animal Shelter takes in kittens and cats that will need ongoing veterinary care. It is possible to take one of these felines home as part of our permanent foster program. As a permanent foster, you provide basic supplies (regular food, litter, etc.) and love, and the shelter pays for the medical care of the animal. Some of these animals require daily medication or frequent trips to our veterinarian for procedures – each situation is unique. If you would like to permanently foster one of our special needs cats or kittens, please email catadoptions@parmashelter.org.

Do we have the cat for you! Meet Chip! You will want more than just him when you see him. Kind of like Lay’s potato chips. You can’t eat just one. Well, you’ll want one more cat just like him! Chip is affectionate and loves to be petted and likes head and cheek rubs. He is easy to pick up and will most likely be a lap cat. Chip listens when you talk to him. He will give you a kitty kiss if you ask him for one. Feed him a churu or treat and he’s in heaven. Chip loves to hide under blankets! He can be a little adventurous when he’s out on the main floor but does get a little talkative when he’s nervous or wants attention. He is playful and likes chasing the laser. Chip was surrendered to PAS when his owner passed away. The person who brought him in said he’s not good with other cats or dogs, so he may be better as an only pet. He will be an ideal companion for a single person or a couple who are home a lot. Chip is getting a little sad that he hasn’t been adopted. He’s hoping his forever human is out there and will soon be in to adopt him. Won’t you consider adopting this handsome cat? Fill out an application online. You will receive an email once the application has been approved. (dob 3/29/22)
Jenga is an affectionate male cat who will roll to his side when you pet him! He will put out his paw to touch you. Jenga is very friendly and sweet and seems to love other cats so he may get along in a home with another cat. Jenga is playful and likes string toys and lasers! He might be okay with a dog and because he does get a little over stimulated when he’s played with or petted, he would be better with children 13 years and older. He will make a great companion for a single person, couple or family with older children. Jenga is smart and is good with people. Ask him for a kitty kiss and he just may give you one! Jenga is waiting for his forever family and would love to be adopted sooner than later! He says he’s been at PAS long enough and has paid his dues. If you’re interested in Jenga, fill out an application online. You will receive an email once the application has been approved. (dob 3/30/2019)
