Dogs____ (includes dog walking, kennel maintenance) Cats____ (includes cage maintenance) Specialties: Grooming _____ Humane Ed,_____ (attend special events representing the shelter) Fundraising ____ Cleaning ____ Phones _____ Laundry___ Can Recycling_____ (All in-shelter volunteers clean the shelter and answer phones and do laundry as needed.) All volunteers participate in fundraising The shelter is run by volunteers who work as a team on each shift. Can Recycling Crew Details Take aluminum cans that were donated to the shelter to be recycled. Should be willing to haul one load per week. Money is used to help our homeless animals. Contact us if you are willing to help! Dog Care Specialist Details Our hours are 10-12 noon and 5-7:00 p.m. DAILY. Dog obedience using the techniques taught by a professional dog trainer. Dog walking, kennel maintenance, and general shelter duties needed. Skills Must love animals! Must be able to handle large, strong dogs, able to follow specific guidelines on dealing with shelter dogs, handle all kinds of dogs, with infinite patience, kindness and affection. See guidelines on our web site: http://parmashelter.org/working_with_dogs.htm Cat Care Specialist Details Feeding and care of cats and kittens, cleaning cages, doing laundry, etc. Skills Good with cats and kittens, able to follow policies and procedures, work as a team. Cleaning Crew Animal Shelter Details Chores include washing floors, walls, clothes, general cleaning, vacuuming rugs and emptying the trash. A clean Shelter is a HEALTHY Shelter! Skills General housekeeping skills required. We need volunteers who can come in on a consistent basis - even one hour a week, days preferred. Publicity Details For a person who wants to help animals but doesn't want to WORK WITH animals, this is a great opportunity. The volunteer would deliver flyers advertising our events and ask business owners to post them in their windows. Our flyers can go to the schools in the Parma area, pet stores, vet offices, businesses in Parma, libraries, etc. Make signs and flyers for special events. Skills Must come to the shelter and apply to become a volunteer. Fundraising & Publicity Details Participate in fundraising events and work together to publicize the shelter and facilitate adoptions. Skills Ability to work as a team setting up events, staffing events like spaghetti dinner, night at the races, etc. and distribute flyers etc. for same. Internet Publicity Details To post our shelter information regarding events and fundraisers, advertising our home page address and gain public awareness that if you live in or near Parma, Ohio THIS is the place to look if you've lost a pet, would like to adopt one, need to find a home for your pet, want to know how to take care of your pet or, if you would like to volunteer, what volunteers DO at Parma Animal Shelter. Skills Must have a computer and be internet savvy enough to pass the word about our shelter by posting in message groups and maintaining web pages. Must have the TIME to keep postings and/or pages updated WEEKLY. Receptionist Details Greet the public, answer the phone, filing, filling out forms for new animals, lost and found reports, tours. Reconciling lost and found reports, other clerical duties as needed and doing laundry. Skills Pleasant manner, good public relations skills, organizational skills, ability to work as a team and follow policies and procedures. Junior Volunteer- Age 15 to 17 Details No handling of animals involved. Jr. Volunteers answer phones, do laundry, assist with dog and cat specialists, clean, reconcile lost and found reports and data entry as needed. May also work at special events as needed like car washes. Must be 15 years old or older and have parent accompany you to the screening interview.
